RE: Huntington Beach State Park

One of our favorites. Bike trail takes you to Brookgreen Gardens (worth the trip) and the park is very well run. Counted eight gators sunning themselves on the rocks just off the bike trail on the causeway.

RE: Charleston KOA or Mt. Pleasant KOA

Forget the KOAs. James Island County Park is far and away the best place to stay. Very convenient too.

RE: Question about Huntington Beach SP in SC

No ORV's on the beach. A great CG, however. You will enjoy it.

RE: State parks

You gotta be kidding! Private campground for $17.00! No way Jose! State parks are still the best bargains and places to stay, especially if you like to camp and not just be in an amusement park. Sites are almost without exception larger and better than private campgrounds.

RE: Recommendations for our St. Louis to SC, VA Summer Trip

James Island County Park is our choice for staying in Charleston. Clean, well run and very convenient to downtown. As the others have said, Charleston is more than a one/two day stop, but if that's all you can spare do see Fort Sumter and the downtown waterfront. Some really great houses. If you don't have reservations yet, better do so very soon.

RE: Grayson Highlands water situation?

Just looked on the VA State Park website and no mention made of water problems. You can, I think, contact them directly through their website and ask. I'm sure there is water available. Just fill your freshwater tank and enjoy.

RE: Trip to Montana

You referred to camping "around Yellowstone". If you want to stay outside the park I suggest Grizzly in West Yellowstone. A little pricey, but very nice park.

RE: Hunting Island SC

One of our favorites! Was there in March and it was great! Be sure to climb the lighthouse if it is open. TV was good enough to watch the NCAA tournament.

RE: Luray, Virginia

RE: Teddy Roosevelt National Park ND-Worth The Trip???

Because of the distance involved we probably won't get there again, but am so glad we stayed at the North Unit CG. No h/u but nice sites and bathrooms, and having bison wander through the CG was great! If you go that far, and I really think you should, stop in at Ft. Union Trading Post NHS if you are into history and the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center is worth a stop too. The morning we left we stopped for a late breakfast in Killdeer, ND at a little place called "My House" just off the main drag in town. One of my best breakfasts ever and the conversation with the owner(?) while we ate was great. She was a really nice lady named Enid who was a one person ND travel promotion agency.

RE: Camping near Savannah GA

Ft. McAllister SP is very nice and close in. Stayed there last month. Large level sites. Many people on this forum prefer Skidaway. From the posts I've seen don't think you would go wrong there either. We plan to go back to Ft. McAllister when we have more time maybe in the fall.

RE: Monument Valley

Booked at Goulding's for two nights next month. After reading the posts can't wait. Do I need to make advance reservations to tour with a native guide? Any suggestions?

RE: Gettysburg

I recommend Gettysburg CG as well. Nice, quiet park. Stayed there twice.

RE: Is Nova Scotia worth it?

By all means try to make it to Nova Scotia. Cape Breton Island and the Cabot Trails alone are worth the extra effort. If you are a seafood fan then NS "may" be better that Maine (which we love too). Be sure to visit Louisburg while there and sample some scallops in Digby. Peggy's Cove is lovely and will be packed with tourists that time of summer. Don't eat there! If it's still open try Shaws Landing a a little north of there.

RE: Must Sees in Maine

Acadia NP if you don't go anywhere else! When visiting Acadia, also visit Bar Harbor and some of the other smaller towns on MDI such as Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Bernard (for Thurstons Lobster Pound). Also stop for a while in Camden and Rockland (The Lighthouse Museum). You can't really go too wrong anywhere in Maine. If it wasn't for the winters there and our five grandsons here we wpould move there.

RE: Ft McAllister or Skidway State Park?

Just stayed at Ft. McAlister last month. Very large pull thu sites. Only on bath house/restroom open as they are making major renovation to the other. Liked the park very much and would (will) return again. Fort was interesting. Great Publix market on the way in to the park to stock up if needed.

RE: Savannah, GA

Try Ft. McAlister SP. Nice large sites and friendly staff.

Holiday Travel Park by all means.

RE: Wisconsin Dells

Was there last year and stayed at the KOA (unusual for us). Very nice place if you get the upper level. Close enough (upper level) to walk into town and the nearby ice cream shop. Would stay there again.

RE: Advice needed Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, Arches, Yellowstone

You are doing just right not to rush, but I agree that even though Bryce is stunning, two/three days would probably suffice. I would use some of that time maybe at Capital Reef as suggested and personally would alot a day in Grand Teton NP on my way up to Yellowstone. The views there will take your breath away. What ever you do, enjoy.
